Por qué es un doctor de primer nivel

Professor Manohar Bance is one of the UK’s leading otologists. Practising in Cambridge at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, he has been a subspecialist in diseases and surgery of the ear for 23 years, during which time he has performed thousands of major ear surgeries.
 
Professor Bance’s practice covers the management of all diseases of the ear including otosclerosis, chronic ear disease, eardrum perforation, genetic hearing loss, cholesteatoma, tumours of the middle and inner ear. He also treats vertigo caused by a number of different diseases of the ear, such as Meniere´s disease, vestibular migraine and BPPV.
 
Professor Bance also specialises in Eustachian tube disorders such as balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube, and patulous Eustachian tube. He has run a Eustachian tube disorders clinic for 12 years. Professor Bance is an expert in the selection and the fitting of cochlear implants, and collaborates closely with engineers to produce the next generation of machine-neural interfaces.
 
Professor Bance originally qualified from the University of Manchester before pursuing training in Canada. His residency was at the University of Toronto, and he practised as a consultant there for six years. He also received his MSc in Neurophysiology from the University of Toronto.  He then moved on to Dalhousie University, where he became Professor and Head of the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Dalhousie University in Canada, and Director of the EAR Lab.
 
After a 21-year career at Dalhousie, Professor Bance moved back to the UK where he became the inaugural Professor of Otology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Cambridge and was Fellowship trained in Otology and Neurotology. He has over 220 peer reviewed publications and 9 book chapters as well as being a co-editor of two books. Much of Professor Bance´s research has been on middle ear surgery, as well as how to optimize hearing results. His current research is on the optimization of cochlear implant and middle ear implant hearing results.  
 
Professor Bance is a board member of the Politzer Society, a member of the American Otology Society, the American Neurotology Society, the Triological Society and the Collegium Otorhinolaryngologica Amicitiae Sacrum. He is also president of the RSM Otology section and chair of the British Cochlear Group. Professor Bance is also a council member of the British Society of Otology and is Academic lead in Otology and Neurotology at Cambridge University Hospitals Trust. He has been invited to speak at hundreds of meetings worldwide.

Mr Shiwani currently practices at the Spire Methley Park Hospital in Leeds. He has an excellent record at this hospital, with a review of his practice in 2012 showing that his infection rate and return to theatre rate are zero per cent. He is also a consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon at the Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
 
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Shiwani is a renowned medical educator. He is currently a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield. He has also published numerous medical articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Mr Ian Grant is a plastic surgeon based in Cambridge. He was appointed as a consultant with expertise in plastic surgery and hand surgery in 2005. He served as Clinical Director for plastic surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital 2010-2014.

He has expertise in a range of plastic surgery procedures including breast reduction, breast augmentation, brachioplasty, abdominoplasty, correction of scarring and post-traumatic reconstruction.

Mr Grant graduated in medicine from Oxford University in 1991. He trained as a plastic surgeon in Salisbury, East Grinstead (where he carried out research for a doctorate in the field of wound healing and scarring), London (Mount Vernon), Cambridge, Leeds, and Melbourne, Australia.

He is a regular reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Edition), and was elected to the council of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has published extensively, he is the director of a 2 day course on reconstructive surgery, and another on hand surgery. He is regularly invited to lecture or teach on plastic surgery or hand surgery.

Mr Andreas Prachalias is a leading consultant liver and pancreatic surgeon based in London, specialising in liver transplant procedures, liver surgery and pancreas surgery alongside gallbladder surgery, inguinal hernia and laparoscopy. He privately practices at London Liver Centre, part of London Bridge Hospital, Bupa Cromwell Hospital and King's Private at King's College Hospital. He also works for the NHS at the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Prachalias is highly qualified and underwent training at both nationally and internationally-recognised medical institutions. In 1990 he was awarded a Ptychio Iatrikes, an equivalent to an MBBS, from the University of Crete's medical school. Following this, he completed general surgical training in Greece and then joined King's College Hospital's liver unit as a senior clinical fellow where he trained in advanced HPB (hepatopancreatobiliary) surgery and liver transplantation. 

After his clinical training, Mr Prachalias was appointed consultant surgeon and senior lecturer in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at Athens University Medical School in 2000. Four years later he joined his current NHS trust, where he has been a consultant surgeon in liver transplantation, hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery since 2004.

Mr Prachalias is at the forefront of his field, contributing to numerous scientific papers and is focussed on providing the best care to his patients using the latest minimally invasive techniques. 

In 1999 he was appointed as a senior lecturer at Athens Medical school and he has also been and an invited guest speaker on advances in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery by the Royal Society of Medicine. 

Mr Pranchalias is also active member of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHBPA).

She also dedicates her gynaecological career to research and teaching. Some of her top research interests include heavy period and menopause, and she has published numerous scientific research papers in renowned peer-reviewed journals. What's more, Ms Kalkat has presented her work at national and international conferences. Furthermore, she is actively involved in teaching and training medical students and higher surgical trainees. She is a senior clinical examiner at Birmingham University.

Dr Hlaing attained membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2008, and later fellowship in 2015. She also holds a degree in heart failure from Education for Health and has completed training in acupuncture with the British Acupuncture Society. After qualifying as a general practitioner in 2008, Dr Hlaing served as a GP, and later as a senior partner for a number of years at Swansea’s Harbourside Health Centre. She currently sees private patients at HMT Sancta Maria Hospital and the 1192 Laser and Beauty Clinic in Swansea.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Hlaing holds a number of senior positions, including as an elected member of both the General Practitioners Committee of Wales, and the Local Medical Committee of Morgannwg. She is also an appointed member of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. Dr Hlaing obtained a Master’s in education for health professionals from Swansea University in 2015 and currently serves as an honorary lecturer at the university’s Medical School. Dr Pilkington later passed the Royal College of Physicians membership exam in paediatrics and gained the Certificate of Completion of Speciality Training (CCST) in paediatrics and rheumatology.

Dr Pilkington is the former president of the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology (BSPAR) and also previously served as chair of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society's dermatomyositis group. Throughout her career she has immersed herself in research, she is a founding member of the UK paediatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus study group, as well as clinical director of the Juvenile Dermatomyositis Research Centre. Additionally, she has written over 100 articles and has presented numerous conference papers.
